Crossrail for Whitechapel

Detailed plans for the creation of a new interchange station at Whitechapel to take into account the extended East London line and the planned Crossrail line with the existing underground lines have been creating local concern. The proposed entrance would no longer be opposite The Royal London. The building and excavation work for the large station have also raised anxiety among those who live in the new blocks of flats and houses behind the current station. (February 2006)

DoH website changes

The Department of Health has changed the address of its website and the structure, making past hyperlinks inactive. To track down a report or guidance use the new URL and the 'search' function.

Changes at Whitechapel

The new pharmacy and pathology block in Newark Street has been completed. The new clinical block will be built where the Cavell and Luckes Homes now stand, both are empty, as is Knutssford House. The delay while the government reviewed the implications of the PFI   created  a great deal of publiciity in the media. (February 2006)

Reflections on working at The London

Reflections on working at The London in the 1950s and growing up and living in the East End in the 1930s and 40s. Other items provide illustrated self-guided walks around the modern East End. Some of the walks were prepared for the MEDINFO conference held in the new Excel Centre (at Custom House) in September 2001. This was an international medical informatics conference.
