70th Anniversary Lunch
Dame Phyllis Friend cut the Anniversary cake to mark the first 70 years of the Royal London Hospital League of Nurses (1931 - 2001) on Wednesday 25th July 2001. The Old Library of the Medical College at Whitechapel provided a fitting backdrop with its plasterwork ceiling, polished wood and portraits of past medical staff. Our President, Trudy Wood and members of the Executive Committee worked hard to provide an excellent buffet. In an echo of past nursing discipline each table of members came forward, in rotation, to collect their food. This stirred memories of being signed-in for breakfast by the night sisters. Click the link for Photographs of the lunch.
There was a sale of Royal Worcester coasters decorated with the badge to mark the anniversary. These will also be on sale at the autumn meeting, price £10. They can also be purchased by sending an order and cheque.
