The New Dental Institute (1965)
The London Hospital Dental Institute stands opposite the Out-Patients Department in Stepney Way. This large six storey building with plenty of windows and air-conditioning contains the Dental School, Pathology, Research Departments, Lecture rooms and many more interesting places including a very modern electron' microscope in the basement. Three floors are devoted to the care of patients. The ground floor is the main reception area for old and new patients with comfortable red arm chairs and small tables. It contains a large X-ray Department, Oral Surgery. Gas and Local anaesthetic rooms and four examination cubicles where the patients are examined and directed to the appropriate treatment room.
The second floor contains 90 dental chairs and is called the Poly-Clinic, so absorbing three clinics in one, Conservation, Periodontal and Prosthetics, enabling the patient to be seen by each specialist section whilst in the same room.
The children have a delightful bright sunny clinic on the third floor with many amusements to keep them happy.
The Dental Institute opened its doors a year ago for the treatment of patients and the majority of them have certainly appreciated the comfortable, bright modern building.
